Upon visiting Hamburg Wadden Sea National Park (Hamburgisches Wattenmeer in German), you will find that it is made up of 3 islands. The smallest one out of all three islands is called Neuwerk. It is an island that is known to be very lush and green and the population of those that reside there is 40; a very small residence.

The group of islands is located in northern Germany which is in Elbe estuary and it is the protectant of thousands of coastal mudflats. Tourists and visitors often have a wonderful time exploring this unique destination which has a variety of different attractions. The tern colonies are of a huge variation including Common, sandwich, Artic, and little. There are areas where guides will take visitors on walks throughout the terrain so that people can have a better opportunity to explore the lands. There are several natural features at this destination that are very much appreciated by the tourists. Many of these features have a historical story line to them since they have been around for so long.

Neuwerk’s affiliation with Hamburg is a very interesting one. Their affiliation reaches all the way back to the year 1299. There are paths that are located along the island of Hamburg which lead to the countryside all the way to a tower at the front of Elbe. The tower was used to fight off those that would commit piracy which occurred during the Hanseatic era. Those that visit are able to take walks in between Scharhorn and Neuwerk on the mudflats. The mudflats seem as though they are endless so the tourists are able to walk as far as they desire.

One of the main attractions that people enjoy when they visit Hamburg Wadden Sea National Park is the Seabirds. There are several colonies which were created for the seabirds to reside.

The sandbank is an area that is untouched but people can view it from afar. The bird colony that is there is closed off to those that visit there but they can take a glimpse of the colony when passing by.

Summary of Highlights

  • Visitors can take carriage rides across the mudflats starting in Sahlenburg and ending at Neuwerk
  • Take boat rides in Cuxhaven; they end in Neuwerk
  • Tour guides lead walks across the mudflats
  • Tours to view the birds, mudflats, salt marshes; in Neuwerk
  • Tour guides to Scharhorn
  • Visitors can go on a search for Amber on the island of Kleiner Vogelsand
  • View the Amber exhibition on the Neuwerk island

Other Things to Do

Walking along the main dyke is one suggestion that many people enjoy doing while visiting Wadden Sea National Park. While you are on this walk you can see the foreshore; there is a great view of it. The bird colonies are very popular, and many people love exploring them.

There are not vehicles allowed on the island. Tourists can either walk or ride in a horse carriage to the different locations.

Every country in the world has a season which is popular for tourists to travel; this could be due to weather, special events or other special times of the year. I have a soft spot for Ireland and it has become one of my favourite countries to travel in the last ten years. I did find that there are specific times of the year that it is definitely more fun and worth your while. Although, I always say that each person is different and prefers different things about travelling, so some may like the other months I will mention.

It doesn’t actually matter what time of the year it is, as Ireland has very unpredictable weather. It may storm after a warm summer morning or it may have hurricane weather after a glorious sunny morning. This is actually what I love most about Ireland, the unpredictable, every day is different kind of life.

Spring months

Spring is a wonderful time to be in Ireland, and it is during this month that the weather is most unpredictable, although, if it is raining it won’t last very long. This month is not the peak tourist month so accommodation and airfares are cheaper, and there are fewer people in the queues for big tourist attractions. The fields are colorful and bright, overall Ireland is at its most beautiful stage.

Summer Months

This is the busiest month of the year, there are loads of festivals and the weather tends to stay warm for the entire day (although not guaranteed). Unlike other countries, Ireland does not get blistering hot, so you can enjoy the summer and the travelling. The biggest bonus of summer is that the sun only sets after 10pm, so you have extra time to enjoy the outdoors.

Winter Months

This is by far the cheapest months to travel in as all hotels and tourist destinations loose plenty of customers in the cold and rain. Most tourists do not like the rain, but I love it! So, if you are on a budget this is the best time to go, and besides it will probably be sunny by 3pm. It will also be darker earlier which means you can start pub crawling earlier.

Autumn Months

This is the best chance to see the beautiful green lands turn all different colors and shades. So, if you like nature, exploring wild life and photography then this is the best month for you.

Nicole de Freitas loves to encourage people about travelling and accommodation Ireland.

The stretch of the river Cam that runs through the city centre is known as “the backs” (of the Cambridge colleges) and it is an historic and well known tourist attraction. Without doubt there is no better way to experience them than a relaxing punt tour in the company of an experienced local tour guide. A standard round trip lasts about 45 minutes and travels along the almost 1 mile stretch of the river Cam from Magdalene college to Queens’ college. On the way are numerous notable landmarks, including several colleges, nine bridges and the Chapel at King’s College.

Famous sights

The majority of visitors to the city probably don’t realise that punting on the Cam is not just the best but pretty much the only guaranteed way to get a really good look at all of the famous colleges along the river. Because the land is all private property and there isn’t a tow path that follows along the banks of the river, you can’t walk the course of the Cam through the city centre.

Admission fees

Every Cambridge college charges an entry fee to visitors. The combined cost of these, if you were to visit all the colleges you see on a punt tour would be more than the price of a ticket for the same punt tour. Additionally to of this, the colleges are not open to visitors at set times of the year, such as when the students are studying for their exams.

Choice of punt companies

There are a several companies offering Cambridge punt tours from the very large to the not quite so.

Cambridge River Tour

Cambridge River Tours is an independent punt tour operator set up by two punt chauffeurs with many years experience of working on the river Cam, that has been in business since 2005 .

The guides who give the tours are experienced and knowledgeable whilst still being and friendly and fun, all of which means you will have a wonderful time.

Once in a lifetime

Whether this is your first visit or one of many, a trip on the river Cam is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lives. They will help make sure your trip is one to remember for the right reasons.

Groups of any size can be accommodated, from individuals and couples to hen parties, large tour groups and any one else who wants an experience to remember.

From their modest start operating just two of the traditional small punts, they have built on their knowledge and experience to offer trips on the more comfortable and stable 12 seat ferry punts.

Looking to find the best deal on punting in Cambridge? Then visit Cambridge River Tours to find the best deals for you.
