Top Family Cycle Trails in the UK
Cycle holidays are great fun and allow you to really explore the local countryside at your own pace. They are a fantastic choice for families who love to keep fit and take on new challenges together. Choose from trails that take only a few hours to complete to those that can be spread over a number of days. The UK is jam packed with cycle routes to suite every taste, ability and age. Here are some of the best:
The Mawddach Trail
This Snowdonian trail runs from Dolgellau to Barmouth and is 15km in length. The trail follows a disused railway track that runs alongside the Mawddach estuary. The scenery along this trail is spectacular with views of the Rhiongydd mountain range and a host of other Welsh peaks. If you do not feel up to tacking the whole 15km then the train can be joined at many points including Morfa Mawddach and Penmaenpool. This trail is top for wildlife sightings and mountainous views!

The Forest of Dean
Located in Gloucestershire, the Forest of Dean has a number of family friendly cycle routes. The stone roads and hard trails make the forest perfect for cyclists, whether you want to try some serious off road mountain biking or winding hill climbs. The Cannop valley family cycle route goes along the Severn & Wye railway line as well as taking in some old coal mines located at Foxes Bridge and Lightmoor. It is 11 miles long and takes an average of 2 hours to complete. There are lots of picnic spots throughout the trails in the Forest of Dean so you are sure to find somewhere nice to feed those hungry mouths and rest tired legs at the end of your cycle. This is a perfect trail for little legs that need regular rests!

Kennet & Avon Canal Route
This canal links London and the Bristol Channel and weaves it way through some of the most beautiful places in England such as the Cotswolds. The canal starts in the historic town of Bath where there is much to see and do. Start off following the Bath to Bristol railway path and you will soon join the canal towpath which has been well maintained by British Waterways. You will see lots of brightly coloured canal boats on this route as well as some lovely old bridges and 2 amazing aqueducts. Great for those who love both nature and history!
