Manchester’s Best Clubs | The United Kingdom
Some people may find it odd for one to want to exchange the London scene for another hectic city destination, but a change is as good as a holiday.
Well known for its music and football, Manchester welcomes visitors to its vast array of pubs, clubs and bars. The ever-evolving eclectic night-club scene needs constant updating in the way of reviews and what may be one’s medicine may be another’s poison. However, in my humble opinion, and using various friends of different ages in a bid to keep me current with what is hip and happening down Manchester way, I have decided to rate the following clubs as, well, simply the best!
Factory251, Manchester, UK by Rachel D
Factory251 on 118, Princess Street, M1 7EN – Hear the Bulletproof dj’s spin their best every Friday evening on the ground floor with Decibel appearing in the Factory Boardroom. Best of the lot are surely the Stonelove guys with their 60’s, Motown and pure soul tunes being the theme on Saturday nights. These are just a few of the mainstream entertainment scenes at this energetic club. Tuesdays sees this venue taking a much needed day off.
With regular week-night events such as ‘Back by Demand’ every Thursday, ‘Call It What You Want’ on a Saturday, ‘Fusion’ on Wednesdays, the 5th Avenue club on 121 Princess Street, M1 7AG, claim to be the best for an authentic Indie experience.
The Mint Lounge is located in Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter district and this establishment seems to represent all the Kings and Queens of ‘cool’ clubbing. They are famous for hosting some really great parties and of course, one has to do a bit of name-dropping every now and again with regard to some of the great acts passing through these doors: Florence & The Machine, Flying Lotus, Friendly Fires, Roy Ayers, Mr Scruff Omar, Danny Krivit and Quantic Soul Orchestra. Find them at 46-50 Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter, M4 1LE.
Staying in this end of town, 64 Tib Street, M4 1LW, Matt and Phreds Jazz Club, as the name suggests, features beautiful jazz which, teamed up with some good Italian fare, attract patrons from Mondays through Thursdays from 1800 to 0200.
The Edwardian is part of the Radisson Blu portfolio on Peter Street, perfect for those of you planning a late-night clubbing weekend. The Sienna Spa will soothe away tired limbs in time for work on Monday and is just one of many central hotels in Manchester.
With Peter Street having undergone some amazing rejuvenation, the district now revels in some fine nightlife. At M2 3NQ, you will discover the home of Coliseum; one of the biggest and most popular clubs around. Despite the name change from M2, the proprietors maintain their mainstream club ethos.
Manchester 235 Fusion Bar – this extravaganza is situated in the Great Northern Warehouse, 2 Watson Street, M3 4LP, and delights its patrons with a casino spread over 2 floors, a superb cocktail bar, live showroom and 2 great restaurants, they have some great promotions on such as 2 bottles of Tsingtao beer with a vegetable dim sum plate for £ 9.50 from 12pm to 11pm Sunday through Friday. Perhaps consider making the most of your long weekend by looking up all the city breaks available available.
Your getaway may include a visit to the iconic Manchester United museum, booking a seat for that all important ‘footy’ match, visiting China Town and the Curry Mile before soaking up some culture at the Imperial War Museum; then dance the night away at some of the amazing venues the city can offer.
