Top Five Dates in Manchester 2013

Updated: July 10, 2020 | By | More

Meeting by the town hall and heading through the streets to find a coffee shop might be a great afternoon with an old friend, but it lacks the lustre that you want to shine through on a date. Manchester is an incredibly cosmopolitan city in the north of England that offers more than your fair share of chances to impress a date with off-the-wall and unique venues. Nothing says “I’m interesting, pick me!” like a creative and enjoyable day out that surprises you both.

Food and drink are the usual staples of a date, but in Manchester you have the opportunity to move away from the usual high street offerings, and choose anything from up-market luxury to cosy romantic intimacy. If you want to impress, go for Epernay on Deansgate in the city centre. This is a modern champagne bar with fantastic views. Or if you want quality dining in a relaxed setting, try the gastro pub food offered by The Parlour in Chorlton. Find out what your date likes to drink and eat beforehand and whether you want cocktails, food of any nationality, or fine dining, you are sure to find something to suit you in the city centre or in the suburbs.

If sitting sipping drinks and staring into each other’s eyes is a little too intense for you on a first date, how about combining the food and drink with a little activity? The All Star Lanes is a bowling lane with a difference (check it out), situated at The Great Northern Warehouse in Deansgate. Having fun together is a great ice breaker, but do not let your competitive edge show just yet!

If you just want to have uninhibited fun and laughter with your new friend, how about trying The Birdcage? This is the nearest thing Manchester has to a Las Vegas show experience. It is a both a nightclub and cabaret venue with performances which go well on into the early hours. So if you are both open-minded, get your dancing shoes and glad rags on, and be ready to laugh the night away.

Or, instead of dinner or clubbing, try something different such as having a flutter at Manchester 235 Casino. If you are novices you can book a ‘learning experience’ and try out poker, blackjack and roulette. So the odds on are that you might well win a new lover as well as some money!

If you want a more refined evening out that doesn’t rely on drinking and dancing, Manchester’s got you covered too. Theatre-goers love the intimacy of The Royal Exchange Theatre which is a small theatre in the round. Many award winning productions are featured there. After the show you can go for a coffee or a meal in the bar or restaurant and visit the craft shows and exhibitions which run regularly. You will have a focal point for conversation and give you a chance to get to know each other slowly.
