Ibiza may have a reputation for being one of the liveliest islands in Europe at night, but there’s also plenty to keep you amused during the daytime and activities that will appeal to all ages – not just the party generation.

Although it’s a small island, Ibiza has a huge range of scenery including amazing long white beaches and rocky coves, as well as rolling hills and stunning mountains. There is a beautiful selection of different plants and flowers to see on the island and the best way to do this is on foot. You can join a guided tour walk and get the benefit of a local’s knowledge or you can head for the hills or coastal paths by yourself. It really is the best way to take in some of the amazing scenery and stunning views.

Ibiza is also renowned for beautiful sunsets and the best place to see the sun go down is from the water. You can hire boats to go out into the gentle Mediterranean and spend the day snorkelling and swimming from your launch. Then enjoy the sunset at the end of the day before turning back for the shore. There are also plenty of places to go water-skiing, ride a jet ski or try out windsurfing.

You can go exploring and see cultural sites such as the Necropolis del Puig des Molins – an ancient burial ground on a hillside that dates back to the seventh century BC. You can also take a trip to the mysterious island Es Verda. Two kilometres from the coast of Ibiza this island is said to be linked to the Egyptian pyramids and that the lost city of Atlantis lies below Es Verda.

As you can imagine, these are only a few tasters of what Ibiza has to offer. One of the best ways to get to see this beautiful island is by booking flights to Ibiza with Jet2.com, Ryanair.com or other air lines. There are always great offers to take advantage of and it can really reduce the cost of your holiday, leaving you spare cash to do lots of things while you are there.

Each year lots of us spend our working life looking forward to two weeks in the summer. We book the time off early, and then we spend our evenings shopping for potential locations and hotel rooms. This for many of us is the highlight of the year, and what makes our other 50 weeks worthwhile.

The problem is though that we can only get one holiday per year. Some of us might be lucky enough to get too, but for the most part our finances and our time off work are restrictive and we’re limited to just the one. When you’ve got so many places to choose from, and only two weeks to enjoy them, how do you decide where to go?

Well there are plenty of places to choose from indeed, but here for your consideration we shall be looking at Lanzarote and putting forward the case for making this beautiful island your next stop. Here are some of the top reasons you should choose Lanzarote…

El Golfo - One of the famous points on Lanzarote!, Canary Islands, Spain
El Golfo – One of the famous points on Lanzarote!, Canary Islands, Spain by Moni Sertel

The Weather: The weather in Lanzarote is what you would expect from one of the Canary islands – sunny and warm and actually ideal for lounging in the sun. However at the same time there is also a constant cool breeze which many people find highly relaxing and which prevents the heat from becoming overbearing and unpleasant. There are plenty of holiday resorts on the island too.

The Desert: Almost all of the holiday destinations most people consider have great weather though. They also have great beaches and lots more for the casual holidaymaker besides. One thing that you can get from Lanzarote that you wouldn’t get from just ‘any’ holiday destination though is a desert – and short of travelling to Egypt this is the best way to combine a little desert trekking with your other more standard holiday activities. El Jable is a small desert, but that’s part of the charm meaning you’re perfectly safe and unlikely to get badly lost – it’s just enough to try something different and get some great pictures (or a great day out riding camels).

Volcano: One of the big advantages of all of the Canary islands is the volcanic landscapes that they feature. It’s beautiful in a desolate kind of way, but it also makes for some interesting natural demonstrations and days out. Visit Timanfaya Volcano National Park for instance and sample meat cooked by volcano…

Surf: The beaches are ideal for relaxing and chilling out in the sun, but that’s not all they have to offer. If you really want to experience them in a more active way then this is also an ideal holiday destination for surfers. Head to Famara and you’ll have plenty of great surfing beaches and a vibrant community of enthusiasts.

Mountains: Okay so you’ve already got great beaches, a desert and a volcanic park. However what Lanzarote can also offer you – and what you won’t get to the same degree many other places – is a great mountain landscape which can make for scenic walks or just a fantastic backdrop while you’re swimming in the sea.

The Green Lagoon: For a stunning and unusual natural phenomenon, head over to El Golfo Beach to witness the green lagoon. Separated by red rock, this is generally a very colourful site and well worth seeing.

Vueva de los Verdes: And while you’re visiting wonderful natural formations, why not go to Cueva de los Verdes and explore beautiful caves formed by natural volcanic eruptions.

Variety: In short then you really can’t beat Lanzarote for its variety. It has all the shops and amenities you would expect of a holiday hotspot, and it has great weather and resorts. But at the same time this is also an island that can offer volcanoes, mountains, caves, lagoons and even desert…

Because of its ideal location on the Mediterranean, Spain with its beautiful waters and beaches, countryside with rugged mountains, lush forests and crystal clear rivers and streams, is a very popular place for celebrities to live.  Ernest Hemingway knew early on just how remarkable Spain was, and spent a considerable amount of time there in the 1920s and 1930s soaking up the culture and enjoying the magnificent art of bullfighting.  Many other celebrities have decided to make Spain their home, many of them settling in on the beautiful island of Majorca.

Catherine Zeta Jones
Catherine Zeta Jones by David Shankbone

Majorca has long been known as a playground for the rich and famous in Spain.  The secret has gotten out though, and even though it is an incredibly popular holiday destination for the rest of Europe, many celebrities still choose to buy or build homes there.  Here are five of the most affluent celebrities that make Spain their home.

Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas

Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta Jones and her wealthy older husband Michael Douglas own a property on the north end of the island of Majorca.  They have a lovely luxury villa on the island where they spend part of the year.  They have also been spotted holidaying in various other places around the country.

Rafael Nadal

Grand Slam tennis champion Rafael Nadal not only has a home on Majorca, but he is also a native of the island.  He was born in the district of Manacor on Majorca, and he still has a beautiful mansion there.

Zinedine Zidane

Former French footballer and head-butting enthusiast Zinedine Zidane has a home in Madrid, Spain where he settled during his time spent playing for legendary football club Real Madrid.  Many people wonder why he has stayed in Spain, but can you think of a better place for a retired footballer who David Beckham has described as being “the greatest of all time?” He lives there with his wife and their four sons, three of whom are members of the Real Madrid Academy; one as a midfielder, one as a goalkeeper and one as a striker.

Antonio Banderas

Famous actor Antonio Banderas not only has a beautiful beachfront mansion in Andalucía, Spain, but he was also born there in Malaga.  He began acting in Spain at the age of 19, but in 1991 he managed to break through to Hollywood in Madonna’s documentary Truth or Dare.  Even though he spoke minimal English, he was still able to perform in major roles, and his big break came in 1993 when he appeared on screen as the gay lover of an AIDS infected Tom Hanks in Philadelphia.  He retains close ties to Malaga, thanks in part to his home there and despite currently being married to actress Melanie Griffith, an American.  Banderas is a huge supporter of Malaga CF and even owns a vineyard in Andalucía that he spends a lot of time promoting in both America and Spain.

Alan Sugar

Alan Sugar, also known as Baron Sugar or Lord Sugar, former owner of football club Tottenham Hotspur and the UK version of the TV show The Apprentice also has a house in Marbella, Andalucía.  The savvy businessman started from humble beginnings in London’s East End and now is ranked as the 89th richest man in the world.  Alan Sugar also has estates in the USA and his primary estate in Essex, but I am sure he manages to make quite a lot of visits to his relatively modest beachfront home in Spain using his private aircraft, or possibly one of the many classic Rolls Royce or Bentley cars that he is well known for collecting.

If you want to do some celebrity spotting on your next holiday abroad, look into La Manga Club holidays – dozens of celebrities are spotted here year after year and you never know who you may bump into.

The Greek Islands are a beautiful location for an exciting Greece holiday. Amazing beaches, natural wonders, and exciting nightlife and the friendliness of the Greek people make a visit to the Greek islands among the most thrilling, fulfilling holidays in the world. With a wide variety of adventures ranging from the energy of Santorini to the history of Corfu and even the magic of Ithaka, there is something for everyone on a Greek Island adventure.

Santorini is probably the most well known island in Greece. With beautiful blue roofed cottages gracing the jagged cliffs that tower over the clear waters of the sea, Santorini is a delightfully beautiful holiday destination. The historic city of Thira is located on this beautiful island offering a peek into Greek history. A museum filled with well-preserved artifacts from this site is located here and is hosted by a very knowledgeable staff. There are also several tours of the island featuring the sampling of local Santorini wines – which are said to be very good!

Corfu offers a very different backdrop from Santorini. This small island in the Ionian sea is a great escape for nature lovers. The best thing to do on this island is to take a cycling tour. Tours can be guided or not guided and offer a multiday panoramic view of the entire island allowing the visitor to enjoy the silence of nature, the beauty of the sea, and the hidden treasures of this lovely gem of the Ionian sea.

Beach goers should find their holiday destination on the island of Mykonos. Known for its pristine beaches, excitement, and party type atmosphere, this holiday destination is guaranteed to please. Platys Gialos is the most popular beach on the island. Packed with beach resorts, restaurants, and many people, this beach is where the biggest and best parties are found. Slightly less crowded and a little quieter are the beaches of Kalo Livadi and Kakafatis. Still filled with fun, these two beaches are frequented by a more subdued crowd and tend to be more family friendly.

Travelers interested in the history of Greece and the Greek islands will enjoy the solitude and offerings of Delos, Patmos, and Rhodes. Delos was once a temple dedicated to Apollo and the entire island was dedicated to the worship of this god. Patmos finds its history in Christianity as well as in the Greek traditions. The monastery of St. John the Theologian is located here and John the Apostle spent time here as a prisoner of the Roman Empire. Rhodes is filled with Knights Templar history. Visit the remains of the walled city once ruled by the the Knights of St. John.

The Greek Islands have much to offer holiday travelers. Finding the perfect place for the perfect Greece holiday is easy and fun.

Giglio is a small but beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea, which together with the neighbouring isle of Giannutri belongs to the Italian region of Tuscany. You can find it about 50 km southeast of the island of Elba and 2 km from the Italian mainland.

Giglio offers beautiful beaches and numerous bays for a relaxing holiday, far away from the hustle and bustle. Its untouched nature is ideal for hiking and crystal clear sea with rich marine life is ideal for snorkeling and diving.

If you would like to spend your holidays on a beach with golden sands and wild nature around, then you should come here and look for Spiagga delle Caldana, which will be the right place for you. Located south of the vibrant beach Cannelle, the beach of Caldana is really a “precious jewel”, which is accessible only by boat. If you want to visit the beach during a round trip by car to Italy, it is better to park your car at the Tuscan mainland. Access of tourists to the island with an area of 21 square kilometres is limited.

Crystal clear water, that is full of fish, is a paradise for divers. You can discover the remains of three towers that were used in 60′s of the last century for transshipment cargoes. Rocky reefs with colorful corals, underwater cave with a statue of the Virgin Mary and seahorses, however, can be seen only by experienced divers. But do not give up! The diving school is located in close vicinity to the beach.

Giglio has become very popular and world-known since the last month due to an accident of mega cruise ship Costa Concordia. The ship hit a reef on Friday 13 January 2012 and partially sank. The number of tourists increased rapidly in this island as everyone wants to see the largest passenger ship (by tonnage) to sink. If you still haven’t seen it, don’t worry, the ship will probably be waiting for you at the coast of Giglio for additional several months. In these days it is without a doubt the best attraction in the area.

Quite overshadowed by the fame of its larger “sister” Mallorca, is another Balearic Island – Menorca, lying only 40 km to the northeast. However it is equally beautiful island, rich in diverse landscapes, unspoiled nature and offering excellent recreational opportunities in coastal villages boasting a unique buildings and atmosphere.

Menorca boasts several “Best”, it is not only the second largest and geologically the oldest island of the Balearic Island, but also the easternmost and northernmost situated island. Covers an area of 702 km2, which is a mere fifth of Mallorca. From west to east is approximately 50 kilometres long and from south to north just 17 kilometres wide. In the north of the island there is the wild and unspoilt area called Tramuntana. South of the island known as Migiorn is characterized by reddish soil plains with snow-white beaches and rocky cliffs. Inland of the island is full of fields, pastures and picturesque villages where the time has stopped years ago. They are a far away from a lively tourist centers on the coast. Inland also houses the island’s highest peak, Monte Toro which is soaring to an altitude of 358 meters.

Many visitors of Menorca, talk about it as a “green island”. The green color is really typical for the island, lush green vegetation surrounding you at every step. This is due to high humidity. There are trees that managed to adapt to the quality of soil and climate. These are mainly oak, pine and wild olive trees. Along the roads you can see prickly pear or cactus figs. In addition, there are about 250 kinds of medicinal aromatic herbs and rare Menorca’s flowers Socarell and Daphne.

Green colour on Menorca is certainly the major, but not the only colour which the visitors encounter with here. The island is surrounded by azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea, warmed by the golden rays of the sun. There are red-brown rocks and along the coast you can see the villages with bright white houses.

Menorca has a rich history as well, in the past a number of nationalities have changed here, which left traces not only in architecture, gastronomy, nomenclature, but also in the style of life of local residents. So Menorca still retains its unique character and is quite different from the other Balearic islands. The Romans named it Balearis Menor, which means “small island”, which subsequently evolved the present name of Menorca.

Local residents are working hard to save the virgin nature on the island and preserve it for future generations. In 1991, almost half of the island has been declared a protected area, two years later has Menorca been even declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. As a result is a good balance between man and nature. On the island there are 19 protected areas under the highest level of protection. These areas are home to many animal species like small mammals, reptiles, insects and birds.

The construction of the high hotels is not allowed here and all accommodation structures have to meet certain standards. Thanks to it they all fit nicely into the landscape and does not affect its character. Menorca offers 60,000 hotel beds, which is in comparison with other tourist destinations very few. The number of tourists who can visit the island is so limited and hoteliers, of course, use this situation and raise the prices. All services on Menorca are significantly more expensive than in mainland Spain.

Coast of Menorca is very rugged, about 200 kilometres long and is made up of picturesque beaches, which are separated by rocky cliffs. Very interesting are the rocky bays having the shape of the fjord, a typical example is the area of Cales Coves. The longest and of course the most popular beach on the island is a sandy beach Son Bou, reaching a length of over two kilometers. But will certainly find the beach that suits your needs and thoughts.

The island of Corfu (Kerkyra) is situated at the northwestern part of Greece (only 5km from the Greek mainland). The island has a relatively enough rainfall, and thus there is a variety of plants. Green nature and plants such as olive trees and orchids create along with the clear blue sea a really wonderful place. The island of Corfu is often regarded as the most beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea and is also called the Emerald Island. The highest peak is Mount Pantokrator, measuring 906 m.

Beaches
On the island you will find beautiful pebble and sandy beaches. The best beaches for swimming are mostly in the eastern part of the island. The beaches are gentle with a calm sea (the waves are nearly absent, since the eastern side is not open to the sea), while at the western part you can find rocks.

Climate
Corfu has the coldest climate of all Greek islands (in summer daytime temperatures are around 28 °C), which is pleasant in summer and suitable also for hiking and exploring the island. rare here in the summer of weak collisions occur.

Kerkyra Town
Kerkyra is the capital of Corfu. The town has over 35 000 inhabitants. You shouldn’t miss Vlacheraina monastery, which lies on the own little island.

Corfu is very attractive for its beauty, charm, freshness and distinctive villages with magical ports. In them you can find fishing boats and tavernas. Throughout the island you will see a huge amount of cypresses, olive trees, pines and citruses.

Northern coast of Corfu has long been a popular destination for air tours. The tourists are in this beautiful island totally excited. Corfu has also a rich history and interesting architecture. If you plan on sightseeing tour, you will certainly be happy that the island is dotted with plenty of sights worth visiting. You can visit Achillion – Classicist mansion, where the Empress Sissi spent much of her life. Another beautiful experience of your vacation could also be a walk to the ruins of a Byzantine castle Angelokastro from the 13th century or to the southernmost point of the island, which is Cape Asprokavos. There is an abandoned monastery, above which you can enjoy the view of 130m high rocky cliffs.

The Corfu has several interesting places that we strongly recommend you to visit: the capital of Corfu, Vlacherna monastery, Empress Sissi villa in the village of Gastouri, Pantokrator mountain, tourist town Paleokastritsa with nearby caves by the sea, village Lakoness, view Bela Vista or resort of Sidari with bizarre rocky reefs.
