Rhodos or Rhodes is a Greek island that sits in the Aegean Sea a little way off the southeast coast of Turkey. It is an incredibly popular tourist destination as many travellers choose it as a perfect place to holiday every year. There are some lovely beaches and the weather is generally hot throughout summer months. So when you travel to Rhodos you are going to have a good time, especially if you know what to see.

1. When we go on our summer vacation we want to spend some time relaxing on a beach. The problem is that everybody else has the same idea and the best beaches are usually crammed to the breaking point. Well, when you travel to Rhodos, try to take a trip to Ladiko Bay as it rarely gets overcrowded. Also known as Anthony Quinn Bay this is a great place to swim, snorkel and relax by the sea. You probably will not be the only people on the sand but there will not be the crowds found in other places.

2. If you hire a car, then you want to explore the island. So travel up into the mountains to Petaloudes. This is known as the valley of the Butterflies because there are lots of them about. The admission fee into the park is pretty reasonable and the drive up to it is worth it alone. The air is cooler up here which is sometimes a relief in the warmer months and you can enjoy the beautiful walks along the trails, where butterflies and moths flutter around you.

3. When you visit Rhodos town you will want to see the old section. Start your tour at the Avenue of the Knights where the protectors of the city used to live. The cobblestone road is over half a kilometre long and surrounded by spectacular foreboding buildings that are made from golden stone. The history and culture of the area can be felt in the atmosphere although many of the original inns are now offices.

4. Whilst you are in Rhodes Town you have to see some ruins so make your way to the Acropolis of Rhodes. This is where the ancient town used to be sited and it is on top of a hill so the views are spectacular. From here you can enter the Temple of Pythian Apollo, which has seen some reconstruction work and is truly outstanding. When you travel to Rhodos you are never far away from history and that makes the trip an absolute must.

5. Alright, there might be plenty to do already, but if you are still looking for more, then you will have to visit The Red Lion pub in Rhodes Town. This might not seem like one of the best places to see on the island but for those that like to learn about where they have travelled to, it is a very useful place to be. The pub is loosely based on the English Pub theme and the atmosphere is relaxed and easy going. The best bit is the owners Ron and Vasilis as they know everything there is to know about the island. Buy a drink and tap their knowledge and you will find all the information you need to make your stay a great one.

So when you travel to Rhodos (Interesting information for you could be that the Danish term is rejser to Rhodos) try not to spend all day on the beach and get out and see some sights. It really will make your holiday a much better experience.

History

Located in the South Eastern region of Europe, Greece has earned a reputation as one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. The country is actually an island in its own right. It is surrounded by the Aegean Sea on the eastern side, the Mediterranean on the southern and the Ionian Sea on the western border. A fifth of the country is mainly islands.

The reason the islands are popular is because they are so many of them that one is usually spoilt for choice as to which to visit. They all have beautiful beaches, breathtaking landscapes and support an array of fun activities. Visiting Greece may be one of the best things you ever treat yourself to. With a rich culture, wealth and good food, you can never get bored in Greece. Moreover, the natives are naturally friendly and will make you feel right at home!

The main highlight of Greek tourism is the ancient and rich civilization. The amazing landscape has also created a perfect tourist attraction feature. This is one of the countries that are exciting to tourists and this keeps them coming back for more.

Different islands

Each island in Greece has its own individual beauty and different tourist attractions. Some of the most revered islands by tourists are Paros, Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, and Andros.

These islands are also popular among couples on honeymoon. They provide a quiet, fun and romantic place to be. Most hotels in the islands have honeymoon packages that make the couples’ stay easier. Travel agents also provide tourists with visits to several islands. Due to the moving around, Greece has been considered by many as an expensive holiday destination. However, with proper planning, it is a cost that is manageable.

Other major attractions in Greece are the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens and the most popular Temple of Delphi. Another thing that attracts people in large numbers to this country is the beautiful serene sun kissed beaches with its white sands and the pine and palm forests. A holiday to Greece is not just refreshing, but totally incomparable and unforgettable. There are many hotels to choose from. Choose one that is within your budget but one with all the desirable amenities that will make your stay there fun. As you move from island to island, you can also change the hotels to widen your experience of the area.

Cuisine

Greece has one of the richest cuisines in the world. Their food is usually made from fresh ingredients that make the food more tasty and tantalizing to the taste buds. It is recommended that you eat in the local tavernas as these will have food at a cheaper rate, compared to the 3-star and 5-star hotels. There is food for everyone, even the vegetarians. Most of the hotels along the beach serve their food outside. This creates a perfectly romantic setting for those on honeymoon. Greece is a package that promises fun, fun, and more fun!

The next time you think you deserve a holiday, think Greece!

Ayia Napa is a very famous and popular resort, which can be found in the south-eastern tip of the island of Cyprus. Originally a poor fishing village Ayia Napa changed it face like by a magic into a very visited site, which annually welcomes thousands of tourists from all around the world.

Sandy beaches on the southern coast of Cyprus are very popular among tourists already for years. There are lots of young people coming here every summer. Cyprus’ beaches are traditionally evaluated very positively. The coast slowly descends into the warm turquoise water. The crystal clear sea is suitable for the lovers of water sports – here you can try paragliding or riding on water skis, or diving.

Until the late 18th century, the only inhabitants on the island were monks from the local monastery. The monastery was built specifically as a home for sacred icon, which according to legend, should appear to hunters during hunting. Just after almost two centuries, about twenty civilians moved to the area and founded the city, in the middle of which you can find a monastery.

Nature around Ayia Napa is beautiful, there are also many cultural and historical monuments and archaeological sites and beautiful churches.

How to get here
During the summer season you can take a ferry from the Greek island of Rhodes or the city of Piraeus and Turkish Tasuku. It can be reached by air, Ayia Napa is located about 50 kilometers from the airport in Larnaca.
