To enjoy sports and outdoor activities on Mallorca you don’t have to be an expert – what better place to try out a completely new activity than this sun drenched, relaxed island in the middle of the Mediterranean.  You may choose to alternate days on the beach with adventure activities so that your travel to Mallorca is one of the most memorable experiences ever.

Mallorca is an island of many different landscapes and benefits from a long coastline, so it is no surprise to find that that there are so many and varied opportunities for sports and leisure pursuits.  Imagine getting home and being able to tell the folks about your caving or kayaking adventures – could be the start of a whole new you!

Jet Ski

The coastline of Mallorca means that water based sports can be enjoyed pretty much all year round.  Many people like to travel to Mallorca to indulge in jet skiing, since the waters are generally calm and both novices and experts can get plenty of speed up.  Hire jet ski in Palma through a registered center, as they will have all the necessary licenses and safety checks in place.

Kayaking and diving

The beautifully pure and quiet waters off Mallorca mean that kayaks will glide effortlessly wherever you choose to go, affording priceless views of the coast and the islands beyond.  There are English speaking instructors available if you haven’t taken part before.

You can scuba dive from centers such as Scuba Mallorca, and there are lessons available for beginners.  The experts can take you out to the best diving areas so you can experience the underwater world of Mallorca at its best.

Rock climbing

Mallorca is a mountainous island and this attracts fans of rock climbing, caving, canyoning and hiking.  Extreme sports experts can act as guides from the major resorts such as Cala Mayor and will transport you up to the best sites, as well as providing instruction where needed.

Golf

Golf is very popular on Mallorca, and the temperate climate means you can play uninterrupted by bad weather.  Don Vida Golf is probably one of the best known 18-hole courses.

Cycling, walking and running

With Olympic champions like Bradley Wiggins favoring Mallorca as a training ground, cycling has really taken off on the island and you can hire decent bikes if bringing your own is not practical.

There are many companies offering walking tours of the island, where you get your bags taken ahead for you, so all you have to worry about is your sun cream and bottle of water.  Some of the cliffs reach over 4000 feet and the views are unmatched by any other island in the vicinity.  While out walking with your expert guide you will see many species of birds and mammals native to Mallorca, then there are the caves and archaeological sites.  If you are very fit or very determined, you can book running tours of the island too, for example around the Serra de Tramuntana.

If you travel to Mallorca (Do you know that the Danes use the term rejser til Mallorca) you will find that it is one amazing place for vacation. You can enjoy the relaxation or get involved in some of the many activities that the island offers to its visitors.

Lake Balaton is the largest lake in all of Central Europe, located in the Transdanubian region of Hungary. This lake is a very popular destination for tourists and is referred to as the “Hungarian Sea” by many of the locals. The Zala River feeds into Lake Balaton and Sio is the sole source of outflow for it. The northern shore of this lake is surrounded by a large mountainous region which is considered to be a very significant historical natural landmark as well as a popular area for making wine.

The southern shore of Lake Balaton is known mostly for the resort towns which border it. Some of the towns surrounding the southern shore region include Balatonfured as well as Heviz, which are historically known for being a place for the wealthy to stay. Late into the 19th century landowners began to build summer homes around this part of the lake, renting them out at more affordable prices to working middleclass travelers.

Those who live in Hungary know this lake as “Balaton”, which is derived from the Slavic word meaning “swamp” or “mud”. Lake Balaton has a significant impact on the amount of precipitation that the area experiences each year. The Lake Balaton area receives around two to three inches more precipitation than the rest of the country. As a result this area experiences quite a few cloudy days along with milder temperatures.

A few of the larger resorts around Lake Balaton include Siofok, Zamardi, and Balatonfured. From the month of June till the end of August there is a significant amount of tourism, mostly due to the beautiful scenery which is made up of grassy beaches which attract those who like to sail and fish.
