Bled is quite a small town (6000 inhabitants), situated about five hundred meters above the sea level, nestled in the magnificent alpine nature. It is well-known thanks to Bled lake with crystal clear water. In the middle of the lake there is a Bled Island with the church on it accessible only by a boat.

At the far shore of the lake you can also visit a majestic Bled Castle.

Lake Bled

Lake Bled is considered a symbol of Slovenia. We can find it at the eastern edge of the Julian Alps. Bled is not just a tourist center, but it’s also a spa center with a promenade. There are lots of opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, renting a boat or visiting the thermal pool at nearby hotel Adriatic.

The town dates back to the Habsburg Era, to the early 19th century. The first spa hotel was built here in 1858 by a Swiss doctor Arnold Rikli in relation to its specialization in “Natural Healing”. This first hotel had certainly an important effect on the further tourism developing in this village. Bled is a climatic spa resort with thousands of visitors annually. The local “procedures” include fresh air walking, sport and hiking.

Bled Castle (Blejski Grad)

The castle is situated right on the 140 m high cliff above the Bled lake. In this Baroque castle you can visit a museum focusing on history and culture of the town and surroundings. Its archaeological part shows the history of the region. The castle is open all year round and the basic admission is €8. Further information about Bled Castle you can find on a very nice website here.

Lužnice – enjoy canoeing on the river in real nature paradise in Czech republic https://europeexplored.com/2010/06/02/luznice-enjoy-canoeing-on-the-river-in-real-nature-paradise-in-czech-republic/ https://europeexplored.com/2010/06/02/luznice-enjoy-canoeing-on-the-river-in-real-nature-paradise-in-czech-republic/#comments Wed, 02 Jun 2010 12:22:35 +0000 Claire https://europeexplored.com/?p=578 The Lužnice river (204km in Czech republic) is starting in Austria (4 km). The Lužnice river (204km in Czech republic) is starting in Austria (4 km). It flows into the Vltava river in the town of Týn nad Vltavou (approximately 50 km north of the city of České Budějovice). The river drains 4,226 square kilometers and was first mentioned in sources in the year 1179.

Several places on the river are popular destinations for recreation and canoeing in the Czech republic. The most recommended part started from Suchdol – Majdalena – Stará řeka (Old river) – Lužnice but there are also other great parts suitable for canoeing.

The river is ideal for beginners and suitable for a family holiday. The river flows slightly, the dangerous can be just silty or fallen trees, which you must outflank, and thus slows down a ride. However if you want to experience a romantic vacation in nature, just go to Lužnice.

We recommend you to start in Suchdol early morning (9:00-10:00am) and then – after a daytrip (11.5km) – stay in a campsite at Majdalena. The following day start again early in the morning and ride down through the most beautiful part of the river (protected areas + large lake) to another campsite in Lužnice (22km). Here you can stay for another night or return your canoes. However if you have more days available, you can continue on the water trip in the morning. Be aware that those two camps are the only here, so do not miss them!

Staying in the camp-sites are very cheap (1Eur/person + 1Eur/tent) but do not expect Italian or Austrian luxury. For the canoeing you could need to rent a canoe, barrel for your wears and personal stuff, safety vest and paddles of course. You can rent it really cheap (approx. 10Eur/day) from one of the following rental services:

Slovenia, officially the Republic of Slovenia, is a young country in Central Europe touching the Alps and bordering the Mediterranean. Slovenia borders Italy on the west, the Adriatic Sea on the southwest, Croatia on the south and east, Hungary on the northeast, and Austria on the north. The capital and largest city of Slovenia is Ljubljana.

Slovenia covers an area of 20,273km2 and has a population of 2.06 million. Around 40% of Slovenia’s land mass is elevated land – mostly in the form of mountains and plateaus – which is located in the interior regions of the country. The highest point of Slovenia is the 2,864m high Mount Triglav, the lowest point is the Adriatic Sea at sea level. The Slovenian coast is 47 km long and is very charming.

The majority of the population speaks Slovene which is also the country’s official language. Other local official languages are Hungarian and Italian.

As the vacation centers are mainly used Isola and Portoroz. On the way to the sea, we recommend a small break in Lipica, where they still kept the pride of Slovenia, known for white Lipizzaners. In Slovenia there is one of the largest cave systems in the worldPostojna Jama, a 20-kilometer system of tunnels, and the nearby medieval castle Predjamski. At the north east of the country you can visit beautiful Triglav National Park and Lake Bled, like cut from a fairy tale. In the middle of Lake Bled there is Bled island with the ancient castle on it.

Slovenia may be, more than any other country, marked as a “thermal paradise“. An incredible amount of thermal springs are mainly located in the northeast of the country where you can find lots of of spas.

Slovenia is a beautiful country with lots of undiscovered beauty, suitable for all romantic souls, and especially those who want to enjoy well deserved vacation.

Slovenia is a country of high mountains, is full of forests and lakes, impressive cave systems, medicinal springs and crystal clear sea. It has great culinary traditions, within which you can taste fine wines or traditional fruit brandy, combined with excellent food coming from the sea, rivers, forests and green meadows. It is a country where on a relatively small area there is everything one needs to spend an active holiday.
