Well yes, you can certainly plan for a tour with your family. The only difference will be that it may be not be a luxurious or expensive tourist spot but a fun place close to your home or a small budget trip. To make it more affordable here are some things that you can consider:

1. Find a spot within driving distance: Planning a travel does not always mean that it has to include air flights or cruise travel. It can be a pretty spot within a close range of your home. You can drive to the place and have a fun time with your family. It will not only save you the cost of booking hotels but also the travel fares on flights. At the end of it you can have a vacation and that too without disrupting your budget.
2. Divide the travel expense: If you are travelling with your family and other relatives or friends you can opt for a car rental service and can contribute together for the fare.
