Aquapark Meander Park Oravice is situated near the town of Tvrdošín, surrounded by the West Tatras and Orava Magura mountains. The thermal water in its swimming pools rises from a depth of 1611 metres and has beneficial effects on the body. Thermal water is highly mineralized with sodium, calcium, magnesium, and sulphur, with high iron content. Its composition helps with musculoskeletal disorders, urinary tract and kidneys. Water temperature ranges up to about 58 °C, so it must be cooled before entering the pools.

The Thermal Water: Composition and Healing Properties
The thermal water at Aquapark Oravice is classified as a highly mineralized sodium-calcium-magnesium-sulphurous water with elevated iron content. It emerges from the ground at 58 degrees Celsius, making it one of the hottest thermal springs in Slovakia. Before entering the pools, the water is cooled to temperatures between 28 and 36 degrees Celsius depending on the pool zone. The high mineral content gives the water a distinctive appearance: a slight opalescence caused by the suspension of sulphur compounds and iron particles. These same minerals are responsible for the therapeutic effects. Sulphur compounds are absorbed through the skin and help reduce inflammation in joints, while magnesium relaxes muscle tension and calcium strengthens bone density. The iron content supports red blood cell production when traces are absorbed during prolonged immersion. Doctors often recommend a minimum of three consecutive days of bathing for measurable therapeutic results, with each session lasting no more than 20 minutes followed by a rest period.
Pool Facilities and Water Attractions
Thanks to the thermal water, Aquapark Oravice is available 12 months a year regardless of weather conditions. It covers an area of 1545 square metres and features a large sport-relaxing pool, a large relaxation pool, a small relaxation pool, and a cooling pool. The pools are equipped with water attractions such as artificial waves that operate in 15-minute cycles, bubble seats that release compressed air through floor nozzles, bubble benches for spinal massage, a geyser that shoots water three metres into the air, a water mushroom that cascades water in a circular curtain, spouts that target specific pressure points, and massaging jets positioned along the pool walls. A water slide measuring 80 metres in length with two curves provides excitement for children and adults alike. The sport pool offers six lanes for lap swimming, marked at 25-metre intervals, with a depth ranging from 1.2 to 1.8 metres. The cooling pool maintains a brisk 18 degrees Celsius for the essential contrast therapy that stimulates circulation after time in the warm thermal zones.
Wellness, Skiing, and Nearby Attractions
Aquapark Oravice provides wellness services including a Finnish sauna heated to 90 degrees Celsius, a steam bath at 48 degrees Celsius, and a massage centre offering classical, sports, and lymphatic drainage massages starting at 12 euros for 30 minutes. A restaurant on site serves Slovak home cooking with daily lunch specials. The aquapark is closely connected with the local ski centre, which ranks among the most visited ski resorts in the Orava region. The ski area offers three chairlifts and five slopes totalling 6 kilometres, with a vertical drop of 320 metres and snowmaking coverage on all runs. Night skiing is available on Wednesday and Friday evenings until 9 PM. Day ski passes cost 22 euros for adults and 15 euros for children. Visiting Aquapark Oravice can be ideal for hiking and skiing lovers. There is no better option than rest in hot thermal water after a whole-day mountain trip in summer or skiing in winter. Swimming in the water while there is snow all around is a wonderful experience. There are also many attractions nearby, one of them is Orava Castle, one of the most beautiful and best preserved castles in Slovakia. The castle sits on a 112-metre-high rock above the Orava River and was featured in the 1922 silent film Nosferatu. Admission is 8 euros and guided tours run hourly from April to October. For hikers, the Western Tatras offer marked trails of varying difficulty starting from the Oravice village centre. The trail to the Osobitá peak takes approximately three hours each way and rewards with panoramic views of the Tatra range and the Orava Valley below.
