Góry Stołowe (Table Mountains) are one of Poland’s most unusual and photogenic landscapes — a sprawling natural park of flat-topped sandstone mountains, fantastical rock labyrinths, and deep forested gorges on the Czech border in Lower Silesia. Part of the Central Sudetes range and the only plate-structured mountains in Poland, the Table Mountains offer hiking through terrain that feels like nature’s own theme park: mushroom-shaped rocks, narrow slot canyons, and surreal eroded formations that have inspired legends for centuries.

Hiking the Table Mountains
- Szczeliniec Wielki (919m): The highest peak of the Table Mountains, accessible via a spectacular staircase of 665 steps carved into the rock face. The summit plateau is a surreal labyrinth of sandstone blocks with names like “Camel Rock,” “Monkey Rock,” and “Elephant.” Views from the top extend across the entire Sudetes range and into the Czech Republic.
- Błędne Skały (Errant Rocks): A natural labyrinth of narrow passages, corridors, and ravines between towering sandstone blocks — some only 30cm wide. The experience of squeezing through these ancient rock formations is unforgettable, especially for children.
- Rock City (Skalne Miasto) trail: A 5km loop through the most concentrated area of unusual rock formations on the Czech side of the border within the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area.
Table Mountains are the only mountains of that kind in Poland. This unique nature is protected by Table Mountains National Park which was established in 1993. Most of the Table Mountains is a Paleozoic origin and consist mainly of sandstone. The highest peak is Szczeliniec Wielki (919m) and thus it is also the highest sandstone peak in Central Europe. You can get there through 665 stairs. At the top there is an interesting rock city which is bounded with 60 m high rock walls. The whole area is a popular tourist destination.
It is worth to visit also Biale Skaly, which are 30m high white-colored rocks, or Skalne Grzyby, areas with high prevalence of these rock formations.
