Warm thermal water cascades through rock grottoes and spills into pools that steam under the open sky, while the basilica of Esztergom watches from its hilltop across the Danube. Aquasziget Esztergom sits on an island in the river, a world of water framed by one of Hungary s most dramatic views. Adventure seekers race down twisting slides while families float through lazy rivers past tropical plantings and wooden bridges. The outdoor thermal pools offer a slower pace where the current does the work and the only effort required is deciding when to plunge into the cool plunge pool. Steam rises. Children laugh. The river flows past, timeless and unhurried.
Aquasziget (Aqua island) is one of the newest and most modern spa complexes in Hungary. It is located in the city of Esztergom, in the northern part of the country, at the Slovak borders. The whole water park covers an area of 15,000 m2, while the water pools area is 2,000 m2. In addition to the unique swimming experience you can take away the memory of beautiful Esztergom basilica which is the largest church in Hungary and the castle.

Indoor and Outdoor Pool Facilities
The aquapark has 10 swimming pools. The indoor pools include a huge adventure pool with geysers, an accelerator channel, a pool with massage jets and cave, a relaxing pool with massage jets, a Jacuzzi for 8 persons, and a water paradise for children. The summer part of Aquasziget Esztergom is open from 1 May to 31 August. Out of the summer season you can still use the outdoor swimming pool and outdoor relaxation pool, which are connected with indoor pools. There are also 2 playgrounds for children, a beach volleyball court, and barbecue facilities on the terrace. The outdoor pools include a 120-metre lazy river that loops around the island perimeter, with water current speeds adjustable through underwater jets. The wave pool generates waves up to one metre in height, operating in 30-minute cycles throughout the day. A dedicated thermal pool zone contains three interconnected circular pools with temperatures of 34, 36, and 38 degrees Celsius, each surrounded by heated stone seating. The children pool features a shallow depth of 20 centimetres with a mushroom fountain and a mini slide, while a separate toddler zone has padded flooring and water sprays at ground level.
Infrared Sauna and Wellness Benefits
The aquapark includes an adventure spa with infra sauna, ornamental lake, a mini terrarium, a pub, and a number of chairs. The air-conditioned playground for the smallest kids offers creative toys and games. The infrared sauna is a deep thermal procedure that regenerates the muscles, skin and tissue. Its advantage, due to lower temperature of 35 to 55 degrees Celsius, is that the organism is less affected than in the traditional Finnish sauna. Infrared sauna does not heat the air, as in traditional saunas. This makes the body sweat at lower temperatures and the effect is better. Infrared radiation reaches 1 cm below the skin surface, where it releases toxins accumulated under the skin and pushes them out through sweat glands. It is an excellent way to detoxify the body, reduce weight, stop pain, and reduce cellulite. It cleans and tones the skin, improves its elasticity, and reduces stress and fatigue. A traditional Finnish sauna is also available, reaching 90 degrees Celsius with a separate cool plunge pool and a salt scrub station. The steam bath operates at 48 degrees Celsius with eucalyptus-infused air that opens the respiratory passages.
Esztergom basilica and Exploring the Danube Bend
Aquasziget Esztergom sits on an island in the Danube River, connected to Esztergom town by bridge. The adjacent Esztergom basilica, the largest church in Hungary, rises 118 metres above the Danube with a dome offering panoramic views across the river to Slovakia. The basilica was built between 1822 and 1869 on the site of a former medieval cathedral, and its main altarpiece, the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, is the largest single-canvas painting in the world. The castle museum nearby displays artefacts from the Hungarian royal court and the medieval Kingdom of Hungary. The crypt beneath the basilica contains the tombs of several Hungarian archbishops and is open for guided tours. The Danube Bend region surrounding Esztergom offers some of the most scenic river landscapes in Hungary, with hiking trails along the Pilis and Börzsöny hills. The royal town of Visegrád, 20 kilometres downstream, features a hilltop citadel that once held the Hungarian crown jewels. Aquapark Aquasziget Esztergom is open every day and the basic whole-day admission is 2,700 HUF, approximately 10 euros. For further information see the official site of Aquasziget Esztergom.
