AquaCity Poprad – a popular thermal aquapark with amazing mountain views | Slovakia

Updated June 10, 2026 by europeexplored No Comments

The Tatra Mountains rise behind the glass dome of the main pool building. The peaks hit 2,655 metres at Gerlachovsky Stit and the snow line is visible from the whirlpool. AquaCity Poprad, opened in 2008, is a thermal aquapark built on geothermal springs that feed water at 49 degrees Celsius into the pools. The complex covers 20,000 square metres and includes indoor and outdoor thermal pools, water slides, saunas, and a wellness centre. It is the largest aquapark in Slovakia and one of the best in Central Europe.

The Thermal Water: Where It Comes From and What It Does

\n

The geothermal borehole at Poprad reaches a depth of 1,500 metres and draws water from an aquifer formed during the Miocene era, 15 million years ago. The water emerges at 49 degrees Celsius and is cooled through heat exchangers before entering the pools at 28 to 36 degrees, depending on the pool. The mineral content includes calcium, magnesium, sodium, and bicarbonate. The wellness centre promotes the water for joint relief, skin conditions, and stress reduction. The heat exchangers also supply the complex’s underfloor heating and hot water systems, making the facility energy self-sufficient for heating.

The Pools: Indoor, Outdoor, and the Water Slides

AquaCity has nine pools in total. The main indoor pool, under the glass dome, is 25 metres long and kept at 28 degrees. The outdoor thermal pool, open year-round, is 34 degrees and surrounded by the forested foothills of the High Tatras. Swimming in the outdoor pool while snow falls on your head is the signature experience. The slides include the Kamikaze, the Twister, and the Family Slide. The Kamikaze drops at 70 degrees for 12 metres. The wave pool produces 1.2 metre waves in three-minute cycles. The children’s pool has slides, fountains, and a mushroom waterfall. The total water volume across all pools is 3,500 cubic metres.

The Sauna World and the Wellness Centre

The sauna area includes a Finnish sauna at 90 degrees, a steam bath at 45 degrees, a bio sauna at 60 degrees, and an infrared sauna. The Roman bath is a 36 degree pool surrounded by pillars and mosaic tiles. The wellness centre offers massages starting at 30 euros for a 25-minute session and medical treatments such as hydrotherapy and paraffin wraps. The complex also has a gym, a salt cave, and a solarium. The full-day entrance ticket is 35 euros for adults, with discounts for children, students, and seniors.
